Statement

My recent fascination with Carl JungÕs recently published Red Book led me to the early work of Carl Jung and his effort to develop a system of describing personality types. He created a vocabulary for describing how we as individuals interact and get information from the world around us. This proved to be a useful system and his theories were later formalized and became the basis for the well-known Myers-Briggs personality profiles.

The personality profiles are based on eight attributes (four dichotomies). I made a plate that I felt represented each of the eight characteristics. The sixteen prints that resulted illustrate all the possible combinations of attributes possible in the Jungian model. Each image will be used to create a varied edition of 4 prints. Three of the series are shown at the Wright gallery during the Summer of 2010.

These images are created using a many traditional intaglio techniques along with a few new ones added to make things more interesting! Line etching, aquatint and spit bite are used to created the platesÑeach print has at least three different plates used to create the image. In addition, I have used an airbrush to tone a piece of hand-made Japanese paper, called gampi, which is added to the layers during printingÑa technique known as Chine Colle. The gampi paper, almost like a fine tissue paper, gives the final print the delicate satiny surface.
